    I’m just writing to say THANK YOU. I just ordered. I have been giving myself cyanocobalamin shots since I was 13 in the early 90s (crohn’s disease, then surgery so I can’t absorb any regular B12). As you see, 40 mg (which is 40,000 μg) does not take up much space at all. Once you dissolve the powder in 10 ml of saline, you will get a solution that will give you about 33 shots (if you inject with 0.3 ml syringes, as we advise).

If you saw vials that look full, it’s because they’re lyophilized. Lyophilization is accomplished by dissolving the B12 in a solute to begin with, and companies do not tell what solute they use (hopefully not benzene!). This accounts for the difference in volume. In contrast, our B12 is 100% pure, pharma-grade methylcobalamin.

All sorts of closures for the glass vials were considered for antimicrobial protection. Rubber closures are actually not ideal, because the hole through which the needle passes is too large to keep out bacterial contamination. Multiple studies, such as this one, highlight the issue. Also, rubber closures can contaminate the content with rubber additives, as reported in this study. This is well-known and another reason to avoid rubber closures, although there are still plenty around, as they are cheap.

To maintain the integrity of your B12, ensuring the vial remains tightly closed is the most important thing. It’s actually the staph aureus on our skin that causes most problems, so always disinfect your skin with alcohol or soap before injecting.

Methylcobalamin B12 is extremely stable when dry, even at temperatures as high as 315°C / 600°F. However, an expiration date is required to be on all vitamins, so the lab stamps each vial with an expiration date of a little less than a year. This is the expiry date assuming you dissolve the B12 in saline immediately when you receive it. However, if you keep the vial in dry form, it will last for much longer.

Either online or in pharmacies. If you’re finding it hard to get “injectable saline” without a prescription, don’t sweat it. Brands have to go through an expensive endotoxin test to have that “injectable” label, and many just won’t do it. As long as it’s sterile and preservative-free, you’ll be fine. How to Use

You’ll need 10 ml of saline, which is the maximum amount the vial can hold.

The secret is in small, frequent doses, daily at least if you have neurological B12 deficiency symptoms. When you dissolve our 40,000 μg of B12 in 10 ml of saline, using 0.3 ml syringes will give you 33 shots, each containing 1,200 μg of B12.

Alternatively, you can get 20 shots of 2,000 μg each with 0.5 ml needles. However, we prefer the first option, as even 1,200 μg is a lot for a single shot (that’s as much B12 as you’ll find in 250 steaks), and probably won’t be fully absorbed. Therefore, you’ll get more “B12 absorbed per dollar” if you inject with 0.3 ml syringes.

Any insulin needles will work. As you can read here, we like them to be within the 4-5mm size range, combined with a gauge of 30G or higher. Such needles are short enough to penetrate the skin and reach only the subcutaneous tissue. They are also thin enough to ensure minimal pain. For our B12, we recommend 0.3 ml doses. If you use 0.3 ml syringes, you’ll get 33 shots out of a vial. Therefore, if you inject once daily as we advise, you’ll finish the vial in about a month.

B12 is extremely stable only when in powder form. After you dissolve it in saline, immediately cover it with aluminum foil since it undergoes destruction by light. Our vials are made of amber glass, which blocks about 66% of light from entering. Covering with aluminum foil will completely protect the vial from light. You can store it in the fridge or any cool environment of 5-25°C / 41-77°F degrees.

Safety

Injecting B12 is totally safe. It’s a water-soluble vitamin, so you will urinate any excess. You can’t overdose or build toxic levels. In fact, methyl B12 has been used in mega-doses (equivalent to injecting an entire vial of ours twice a week) to treat cyanide poisoning and neuropathy, and to prolong the life of ALS patients.

We have never had anyone come back to us with an allergic reaction to the methyl B12 vials. Not a single case. We have many repeat customers too, so it must tell you something about how rare true allergy is. Remember, our B12 is 100% pure.

If you had a reaction to B12 shots before (if it had anything to do with the shots at all), it was probably not the B12 you reacted to, but some other ingredient in the mixture. For example, carboxymethylcellulose and mannitol are common additives that are known to cause acute allergic reactions. Also, if anything other than sterile saline was added to the vial, it may have been a preservative you reacted to.

Sensitivities to B12 do exist (mostly to cyanocobalamin or hydroxycobalamin), but they’re very rare. If you want to make sure, go test for cobalt allergy, or have a small test dose of our pure methyl B12 with a physician supervising.

Not at all! Many of our readers self-inject without any issues. If you have some body fat, you’ll barely feel anything. When you think of painful injections, you’re probably thinking of intramuscular (IM) shots, like vaccinations. And while IM shots don’t feel too nice, we believe that a little discomfort is nothing compared to a lifetime of fatigue, nerve damage, recurrent infections, hair loss, and skin problems.

Anyway, there’s no need for IM here. Subcutaneous B12 shots are highly effective, and give little to no pain, especially when the B12 is dissolved in saline.

It’s perfectly safe to inject B12 during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Actually, not having enough B12 should have you more worried. Being deficient during pregnancy could lead to serious complications in your pregnancy, and later to your baby.

We’ve had patients whose doctors advised them to stop the shots after their B12 levels returned to ‘normal.’ This is bad advice. Blood levels of B12 correlate poorly with clinical improvement, and having high B12 levels in the blood during injection therapy is normal and expected. Most of it won’t be absorbed into the cells and will eventually leave the body. Our advice is to treat based on symptoms alone.
